7 Ways to Preserve Garments

Finding work attire can be a daunting task, so when you purchase that fierce shirt—you want it to last.
Whether it’s a $1,030 Fendi belted silk-blend blouse or Ann Taylor’s version for $98, you want to ensure that the garment has a long life-cycle.
Protect your clothing with these tips:
1. Treat stains immediately. Use paper towels or cloths to remove the stains, but do not rub. Gently blot the stained area and wash/dry-clean the clothing as soon as you can. This will help stop the stain from settling. Pick up a Tide-To-Go Instant Stain Remover or the Clorox 2@ Stain Fighter Pen on your way to work tomorrow and keep it in your purse. You'll be glad you did when that person on the train bumps into you and spills his coffee all over your khaki blazer.
2. Air-dry clothing when possible. Doing so prevents wear on seams and zipper snags from tumble-drying, according to an article on Tide.com. Air-drying can also "reduce wrinkles" and "eliminate static cling," says Tide.com.
3. Store your clothes in a cool, dry and dark place. Moisture can attract pests that will damage your garments. Light fades and yellows color, according to “Garment Storage” by NobleHouse Custom Tailors. Check to make sure your summer/spring wardrobe you just packed is stored properly. Another 30 minutes re-organizing is nothing compared to the hundreds of hours spent working to purchase those clothes.
4. Hold onto the extra buttons. Missing buttons can keep you from being able to wear your favorite cardigan. Sew the replacement buttons on the inside hems of your clothing so that you can easily locate and repair the piece when you need to, says an article on Martha Stewart.com.
5. Do not wash just because you have a machine. This causes wear and tear on the garment. "Often airing and brushing clothes is enough," says H&M.
6. Separate your clothes. You've seen a million television shows where the little brother gets revenge on the older sibling by placing a red sock inside of his/her laundry and turns all of the white clothes pink. Don't ruin your own whites. Follow the washing instructions on your tags and place like colors together. If you are unsure what pile mauve blazer should be thrown into, take it to the cleaners.

It can be hard finding the motivation to get to work some days, for whatever reason. If you are at a job that you do not particularly like, this is everyday.
Regardless of the occurrence, no one at your job should know about your "oh so horrid" morning. Not only do they not care, as they probably were not jumping for joy the moment their alarm went off either; you’re also messing with your own productivity by keeping this perspective. “The mood you bring with you to work has a strong effect on the day's mood and on work performance,” according to a study done at Wharton. So if you are still dwelling on the fact that you’re not in your bed, or somewhere else, after you have arrived at work, you are not going to be very valuable throughout the course of the workday. And in a job economy with a national unemployment rate of 9.6 percent, providing value to a company is essential to your employment status.
Adding an accessory to your outfit will not only fiercify your look, but your mood and work performance as well! By definition, an accessory is: “an object or device not essential in itself but adding to the beauty, convenience, or effectiveness of something else,” according to Webster. Therefore, it is sure to accentuate your positive feelings, which will allow you to start your day off great!
